MAILS FROM THE RIVERBANK

Season’s greetings

Welcome to the 2nd edition of this electronic newsletter for AMRA members.  We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year.  As you can see, our e-zine retains the original name. Following the request made for alternative titles, we received one suggestion: “MarinEmag.” I’d be delighted to hear if this would be the preference of our readership or perhaps, over the days ahead, you may be inspired to make some suggestions of your own. I confess we overlooked the presentation to Antonya Cooper of the prize for her suggestion. My apologies for this and we will make amends at one of the events detailed below.

Forthcoming events:

By popular demand, we are going to start 2010 with another of Jill Carver’s (“Added Ingredients” Stert St.) gourmet wine & food evening’s at 12 North Quay. This will commence at 19.30 Wednesday 13th January. The entry fee, required in advance, is £10 for members and £15 for guests. As places are limited, please book yours with Neil or Linda on 01235 535193 or by return e-mail.

On Friday 5th February we are holding a gig featuring Pete Morton a highly talented folk singer, songwriter and entertainer, at the Abingdon Rugby Club commencing at 19.30. This promises to be a brilliant evening, there will be a cash bar and raffle prizes. Any profit will be donated to New Futures Nepal a small charity running two orphanages in Nepal and northern India. Entry is by raffle ticket, cost £5 for members and £10 for guests. Raffle tickets are available from Paul & Sandie Burnett 01235 535600 or sandieburnett@gmail.com. Please see the attached flyer. For yet further information and a sample of his work, visit www.petemorton.com

Cycle hazard

As most of you will have seen, the council has at last installed a suitable barrier beside the cycle path which will prevent cyclists and other road users causing a danger to themselves and others on North Quay.  Our thanks again to John & June Napper who helped the AMRA campaign to persuade the Vale to undertake this work.

New treasurer

We wish a warm welcome to Paul Burnett as AMRA’s treasurer since the AGM. He will be an asset to the committee.
